How To Use Bait In Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is a cross-platform farming simulation game at the very basic level, but it’s a lot more than that.
Much like other similar farming simulation games, like Harvest moon, Stardew Valley is packed with things to do that aren’t just farming.
You can raise animals on your farm, explore the depths of the caves filled with monsters, and uncover the town’s secrets.
One thing that you will probably spend a lot of time doing in Stardew Valley is fishing. Fishing is a great way to make money in the game, as you can sell your catch to the fisherman or the shopkeeper. Or you catch fish to fulfill quests. There are even some rare and legendary fish to catch.
You’ll be doing a lot of fishing as you progress through the game. However, there are times when fishing might be challenging. It is not always simple to reel in a big catch. That is why many players use bait when fishing.
Here we will cover everything that you need to know about bait in Stardew Valley, including how to attach it to your rod and the different types of bait in the game.
What Is Bait?
In Stardew Valley, bait is an item that increases your chances of successfully catching fish. It may be fastened to an Iridium Rod or a Fiberglass Rod or placed inside a Crab Pot.
When the bait is attached to a fishing rod, certain effects are activated that can improve the player’s ability to catch fish. When placed in a crab pot, the bait lures in sea creatures that you can later catch and sell.
You are restricted to using a single bait for each casting. When you have used up every piece of chosen bait, the game will notify you with a message that appears on your screen.
How To Attach Bait To A Fishing Rod
Bait is super easy to use. All you have to do is attach it to your fishing rod. How you do this will depend on the console you are using to play the game. Here is how to attach bait to the rod, depending on what you are playing on.
On PC
You can easily attach bait to a fishing rod by left-clicking to pick up a stack of bait and then right-clicking on the fishing rod itself.
If you want to attach a lower amount of bait to a fishing rod, first right-click on the amount of bait you want to use and then right-click on the fishing rod itself.
Xbox Controller
In Stardew Valley, for Xbox, or when using an Xbox controller on PC, to attach the bait, press the A button on the bait to pick up the entire stack.
You can also choose individual bait by pressing the X button. Press the X button when you have the right amount of bait so that it can be attached to the fishing pole.
PlayStation Controller
To pick up the entire stack of bait, press the X button. If you only want a few pieces of bait, then press the Square button instead.
After that, hit the “Square” button on the fishing rod to attach the bait to the hook.
Nintendo Switch Controller
You may either press A on the bait to select the entire stack or Y to pick them up one at a time. After you have chosen the bait, you can fix it to the rod by using the Y button.
iOS And Android
Simply clicking and dragging the bait piece or stack onto your fishing pole is all that is needed to attach bait while using a mobile device.
What Can Different Types Of Bait Be Used For?
In fishing in Stardew Valley, just as in real life, not every species of fish in the ocean will be interested in eating the same kind of bait.
Here is every type of bait, what they can do, and how you can get them.
Bait
This is the default bait offering used in Stardew Valley, and it is the one that is the least difficult to get. Regular bait is used to speed up the rate at that fish bite on your fishing line, meaning you get more fish faster.
You can get the bait in 3 different ways. Firstly, bait can be purchased from the Fish Shop for 5g each. It can also be taken out of the worm bin if you have that on your farm.
If these aren’t good options, you could make the bait yourself using a crafting recipe. You need 1 piece of bug meat (which can be found in caves) to make bait. The crafting recipe can be learned after the player reaches level 2 of Fishing.
Wild Bait
Wild Bait is essentially regular bait, but it will get you even more bites on your line and let you catch fish much faster. Those who are interested in getting the Wild Bait will need to become friends with Linus, the man who lives in the yellow tent by the caves.
Players must combine 5 pieces of Bug Meat, 5 pieces of Slime, and 10 pieces of Fiber to make the Wild Bait. From this, you will get 5 pieces of Wild Bait.
Magnet
Did you know that you can get treasure chests from fishing? If this sounds much more fun than catching regular fish, then you should add the magnet to your fishing rod.
This particular add-on will result in a 15% increase in the likelihood of players discovering treasure (making it 30% total, as you typically have a 15% chance of finding treasure usually).
A magnet can be purchased from the Fish Shop for one thousand gold or constructed by the player with one iron bar and one iron ingot.
You have to wait until you reach level 9 in Fishing to get this recipe.
Summary
Stardew Vally is a fun farming sim packed with things to do. If you are heading off fishing in the rivers and oceans of the game, add some bait to your fishing rod to get even more catches!
