How To Attach Bait To Rod Stardew Valley
Fishing is one of the most fun things you can do in the farm life simulator game Stardew Valley. It is often said it is a mini-game due to the gamer having to spend time working on their in-game fishing skills.
Unlike the likes of Animal Crossing, where you are listening for the sound of the fish grabbing the bait (or feeling the vibration from your Nintendo Switch), in Stardew Valley, you need to learn how to deal with different types of fish and their movements, as well as trying to keep the fish caught in the green bar.
While you can stand by a river or the ocean waiting for fish, attaching bait to your fishing rod is an easier way to attract fish. There are plenty of interesting reasons to do this too.
In this article, we shall take a look at how to attach bait to a rod in Stardew Valley, as well as the different fishing rods and bait available.
What Is Bait In Stardew Valley?
There are a few versions of bait in Stardew Valley. The most basic kind is ‘bait.’ Let’s take a look at bait in more detail:
Bait
If you are looking for simple bait that is super easy to craft or find, then the basic bait is the way to go.
You can buy this type of bait from Willy’s Fish Shop for 5g a pop. You may even find it in a worm bin in the mines, or you can craft it by using one piece of bug meat (which you will get in the mine).
However, while the fish will bite much faster, it does not do much but that.
Wild Bait
If you befriend the homeless man Linus, you will be able to obtain the recipe to create wild bait. You must get at least 4 stars to receive the recipe.
You will need 5 pieces of bug meat, 5 pieces of slime, and 10 pieces of fiber. Once created, you will receive 5 pieces of wild bait.
The great thing about this type of bait is that you can catch two fish simultaneously, though this does not work on legendary fish. Booo!
Magic Bait
The magic bait removes any fishing restrictions, meaning you can catch fish no matter the season or time, among other things.
You will need to be granted access to Qi’s Walnut Room to buy it or the recipe. It will cost you 5 Qi gems for 20 magic baits or 20 Qi gems for the recipe.
Once you have learned the recipe, it takes 3 pieces of bug meat and 1 radioactive ore to create 5 pieces of magic bait.
How To Attach Bait To A Fishing Rod In Stardew Valley?
Stardew Valley is available on several gaming platforms, so we shall go through each to help you learn how to attach bait to a fishing rod.
Nintendo Switch
On the inventory screen or toolbar, press A while hovering over the bait to select the full stack, or press Y to pick up a single piece of bait. Once selected, hover over the fishing rod and press Y to attach the bait.
PC
Open the inventory screen and right-click to select one piece of bait. Then you will need to hover over the fishing rod and right-click to add the bait. If you left-click the bait, it will select the whole stack.
PS4/PS5
On the inventory or toolbar, press X once you hover over the bait to select the full stack of bait. Only press square if you want to pick up one piece of bait. To attach it to the rod, hover over it and press square again.
XBOX
When hovering over the bait on the toolbar or inventory, press A to select the whole stack of bait. If you only want to select one piece of bait, press X. Press X again when you hover over the fishing rod to attach it.
iOS And Android
If you are playing the game’s mobile version, you will need to open the inventory. You can then use your finger to drag the bait over to the rod and attach it.
What Are The Different Fishing Rods In Stardew Valley?
Regarding the fishing rod in Stardew Valley, there are a few types to choose from. When you begin the game, you will start with a basic rod. However, you will soon be given a better rod by Willy and the opportunity to buy more advanced rods.
However, while there are a few fishing rods to choose from, only two allow for you to attach bait. These are the fiberglass rod and iridium rod.
Both these rods will be available to you at Willy’s Fish Shop at some point as you advance through the game. It is located in the south of the beach, right by the sea, and the store is open every day apart from Saturdays.
If it rains on Saturday, then his fishing store will open. Remember that it is only open from 9 am to 5 am. You may see him fishing before and after, though you cannot buy anything from him now.
Just a note, the fiberglass fishing rod is available in his shop once you reach level 2 with fishing, and the iridium fishing rod is only available once you reach level 6 with fishing.
Final Thoughts
Fishing is one of the most fun things to do in Stardew Valley, but it is also important if you want to advance through the game.
Fortunately, different types of bait and fishing rods can help you level up and attempt to catch the legendary fish. Once you get the hang of fishing, you will be hooked!
