Take A Geode To The Blacksmith

You can find geodes in the mines by breaking rocks. While you can find the likes of ruby, gold ore and copper ore, and so much more while working through the mine levels, there is a high chance you will leave the mines with lots of geodes.

Because it will likely be close to 2 am once you finish in the mines, you will need to visit the blacksmith, Clint, the next day during his opening hours. These are 9 am till 4 am, which is closed on a Friday if you have not restored the Community Center yet.

He will open the geodes for you for a fee. Often you may find rare and not-so-rare items. You may also find clay. However, it is random, so you may not have any clay for ages. 

In The Mines

Speaking of the mines and geodes, you may also find squiggly lines within the mines of softer floored areas. This means that it is worth taking your hoe with you to till the ground.

And again, you may find geodes hidden in rocks within the mines, which may include clay. You just need to visit Clint, the blacksmith, in the southeast area of the map. 

Once you get the cart up and running, you can quickly reach this area from your farm. 

Feast Of The Winter Star

Another way to receive clay is during the Feast of the Winter Star, which happens in December on the 25th day. You might know something else that happens on that day too.

A few days before the 25th, you are given a person to secretly give a gift to. It is usually random and will mean you are waiting for a small bit of clay for ages. 

If you are paired up with both Vincent or Jas, then you can expect to receive some clay. 

What Is Clay Used For In Stardew Valley?

Clay is seen as quite a valuable resource within Stardew Valley. For this reason, it is used for a variety of items. Some of these include the bone mill, the quality retaining soil, and the Silo – all of these crafted items require the use of clay.

However, you will be pleased to know that the highest amount of clay you will need in one go is 10 pieces for any crafting purpose. This is to craft the silo, which is helpful if you own farm animals and want to collect hay.
