How To Get Wheat In Animal Crossing
Unsurprisingly, when Animal Crossing introduced the ability to cook food and farm produce, everyone became pretty excited. While farming simulators are pretty popular right now, there is a good reason for it.
Not only are these ‘cozy games’ completely relaxing on an evening tucked up on the couch, but they offer gamers an all-round experience without resorting to violence.
However, farming and cooking food is nothing new. We have recently seen it in the likes of both Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Stardew Valley. But even so, it was a welcome addition to Animal Crossing.
If you are looking for wheat, you will need to speak to Leif, the character who sells flowers and can buy your weeds from you for a great price.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at where to find wheat in more detail so you can cook and bake some delicious food in Animal Crossing.
How To Find Wheat In Animal Crossing?
There are a few ways to find wheat in Animal Crossing. Here are the best options:
Buy From Leif
One of the easiest and best ways to find wheat is to head straight to Leif.
You can either wait for him to turn up on your island and stand in front of Resident Services or if you have already helped Leif open a stall on Harv’s Island, you can visit him at the plaza any time of the day.
Once you get the chance to speak to Leif, you will notice that he has stock available to buy. This will rotate every day, so there is a good chance that wheat may not be available.
However, when ‘wheat starts’ are available to buy, they will cost 280 bells. You can buy one or several wheat starts.
Kapp’n Tour
Another option is to take a tour with Kapp’n on his boat. While this can be a fun experience, it is not a surefire way to find wheat.
It will cost you 1000 Nook Miles to take a trip on his boat. Once you arrive at an island, there is a very small chance that it might include wheat. If it does, then take as many as you like.
You can also dig up wheat plants to then grow on your own farm – cheeky!
However, even if you do not find wheat this way, it is a great opportunity to search for other unique items. You may even come across the rare star island, which features the stars that you find washed up on the beach after wishing upon them.
From A Friend
If you have a friend who has wheat starts, then another super simple way to get them is by your friend sharing them with you. To do so, all you need to do is either go to their island or have them visit yours.
They can ‘drop’ the wheat start for you to pick up, or if you are on their island, you can take some wheat from their farm. Just remember to ask first!
What Is Wheat Used For In Animal Crossing?
Wheat is used for making flour. This is then used within cooking or baking items. To create the flour, you will need a kitchen item you can cook on.
There are many to choose from, so you will not be spoilt for choice when it comes to the design of your room. You can also DIY your own using a crafting bench.
To make either whole-wheat flour or flour, you will need 5 wheat to do so.
You will find that along with sugar, wheat is needed in many recipes and can be considered a staple. For this reason, it is helpful to have a stock of wheat within your storage.
You never know when you might need some wheat!
How Do You Grow Wheat In Animal Crossing?
If you have grown flowers before in Animal Crossing, you will understand the simple process of growing wheat.
In fact, it is even simpler because you will not need to grow the wheat in a particular pattern to achieve anything – you know, the color of flowers!
Once you have wheat starts, find an area of your island where you wish to plant them. If you have unlocked the terraforming ability for design purposes, then placing mud on the floor gives the farm a rustic aesthetic.
However, this is not needed. You can grow wheat on grass too. If in the future you want to design the area more, you can dig up the wheat to replant it.
Once you have decided on the area, you will need to use the shovel to create a hole in the ground. This helps you to lay out the wheat exactly how you want it. Once the hole has been created, click on your inventory and click on the wheat start. Press ‘Plant 1’.
Once you are happy, water the ungrown wheat using the watering can. To make sure they grow quickly, water them every day. Other than that, nothing else is needed to help them grow.
Once the wheat is grown, it is there forever until you decide to remove it. You can keep pulling wheat away, and it will grow back once watered.
Final Thoughts
The ability to grow food on the island and cook or bake has helped Animal Crossing New Horizons be one of the best-ever games in its franchise. While you can bake cookies and bread, you might not know where to find wheat in the first place.
Fortunately, it is super easy. All you need to do is find Leif and buy some wheat starts. However, if Leif does not have them in stock that day, or you do not have Harvey’s plaza available to you yet, there are other ways.
