How To Make A Nursery In Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is one of the most popular simulation role-playing games in recent years. You can farm your own crops, take care of farm animals, explore the local mines – and even get married and have kids!
However, to be able to have kids in Stardew Valley, you first need to have a nursery ready for their arrival. So, how do you make a nursery in Stardew Valley?
Check out the guide below for all the information you need!
How To Make A Nursery In Stardew Valley
To get a nursery added to the farmhouse in Stardew Valley, you need to have the second house upgraded from Robin, the valley carpenter who sells crafting resources, furniture, and farm buildings.
She can also upgrade your home three separate times, and each upgrade adds new features to your farmhouse.
This second upgrade will add two new rooms to your farmhouse. The first will be an empty space where you can add furniture or use it to store kegs, crystalariums, preserves jars, and more.
The second room is the nursery – which will come with two single beds and a crib.
Once you have added the nursery to your farmhouse, you can later add children to your household.
However, to unlock the second house upgrade from Robin, you first need to gather materials, raise funds, and complete the previous house upgrade before you can get a nursery added to your home.
So, here are all the steps you need to do before adding a nursery to your home in Stardew Valley.
Step 1: Raise Money
Each of Robin’s house upgrades costs a lot of money in Stardew Valley, so your first priority is to raise up your funds until you have more than enough to pay for Robin’s house upgrades.
The cost of each house upgrade is as follows:
House Upgrade | Cost |
House Upgrade 1 (Kitchen Upgrade) | 10,000g |
House Upgrade 2 (Nursery Upgrade) | 50,000g |
House Upgrade 3 (Cellar Upgrade) | 100,000g |
This means that to get a nursery, you need to have 60,000g ready to pay for both the first and second house upgrades from Robin.
Raising your money in Stardew Valley is easy, as it’s a core part of the game. As a result, there are lots of methods you can use to raise some cash quickly. Here’s a quick look at some of the methods you can use:
- Use a Crystalarium to duplicate diamonds, which sell for 750g each.
- Wild Honey can be gathered with a Bee House, and each jar will sell for 100g each.
- Use Kegs and Preserves Jars to double the price of your crops by turning them into pickles, jams, and wines.
- Grow groups that produce more than once, like corn, blueberries, tomatoes, and more.
Step 2: Gather Resources
For the first and second house upgrades, Robin will require you to bring your own resources so she can use them to upgrade the house.
For the first house upgrade, you will need 450 pieces of wood.
Wood can be collected after cutting down trees or branches, either on or off your farm.
Wood can sometimes be found in treasure chests while fishing, but the quickest and easiest way to gather wood is to just grow and chop down trees on your arm.
Alternatively, wood can be purchased from Robin’s shop for 10g during Year 1 or 50g in Year 2 and later.
For the second house upgrade, you will need 150 pieces of hardwood.
Hardwood is harder to gather in Stardew Valley. It can be collected after chopping down a mahogany tree, or large stump, or a large log.
While a mahogany tree can be chopped down with any type of axe, you need to upgrade your axe to be able to chop the large stump and large log.
To chop a large stump, you need a copper axe (or better), and to chop a large log, you need a steel axe (or better).
All of these can be found on your farm. Once you have broken all the logs and stumps on your farm, you can grow mahogany trees to continue farming hardwood.
Mahogany trees grow from mahogany seeds which can be obtained after shaping or chopping down trees, mahogany trees, or large stumps. Some slimes in the mine also drop mahogany seeds after being killed.
If you don’t want to wait around for mahogany trees to grow, then six large stumps respawn daily in the Secret Woods (through the path above the Wizard’s Tower), and hardwood can sometimes fall from broken barrels and boxes in the Mines.
Step 3: Go To Robin And Upgrade Your House
Once you have your resources ready and you have enough funds to cover both house upgrades, you can head over to Robin’s Carpenter Shop and pay her to upgrade the farmhouse.
The Carpenter’s Shop is in the Mountain area to the north of Pelican Town. It’s the same building as Robin’s home, where she lives with other characters, Demetrius, Maru, and Sebastian.
The Carpenter’s Shop is open most days between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm. However, there are some exceptions when the shop is closed. These are on:
- Tuesdays, as Robin leaves to go to the General Store for an exercise class with other characters like Emily and Marnie.
- Fridays, as the shop closes at 4 pm instead of 5 pm.
- Thursday, Summer 18, as Robin has her annual checkup at Harvey’s Clinic.
- All festival days.
Robin will take three days to complete your house upgrade each time. After the second upgrade is done, your home will have a nursery!
Final Thoughts
A nursery is a necessary upgrade to get if you want to add children to your family in Stardew Valley.
Follow the steps above to get your second house upgrade from Robin, and then keep your fingers crossed that your partner in Stardew Valley will soon ask you to have kids to grow your Stardew Valley family!
