Is Biomutant Multiplayer?
Biomutant is arguably one of the most charming, open-world releases in years.
Although it has received mixed reviews since its release, Biomutant is truly unique – after all, what other role-playing games out there let you play as a mutant cat that kicks ass with its impressive martial arts skills? Nill.
If there’s one thing gamers want more of from their games, it’s the multiplayer experience. Time and time again, the statistics show us that games with multiplayer options rake in more sales and have more dedicated fan bases.
Unfortunately, though, despite all of its charm and glory, Biomutant didn’t jump on the multiplayer bandwagon, and it seems to have suffered as a result.
What Is Biomutant?
In this post-apocalyptic, kung-fu-centered RPG, you’ll play a unique mutant cat (that’s our best description, anyway), and you’ll spend plenty of your time shooting, enjoying the freedom of movement and agility, performing some badass kung fu skills, and learning from masters.
Biomutant was released in August 2021 and received mixed reviews from its players.
In this dystopian world, you’ll battle through a land that’s been taken over by plenty of pretty gnarly mutant animals. For most of the game, you’ll spend your time getting rid of the bad guys, but the actual storyline is a little more complex than this.
For most, the storyline is threefold – tribe wars, the Toxanol corporation, and of course, the end of the world.
Before the game began, humans spent most of their time dumping toxic chemicals into the earth, hoping they’d one day deteriorate – out of sight, out of mind, we guess.
In all seriousness, this isn’t too dissimilar to what humans do, which is why so many players were intrigued by the game before its release.
All this waste, produced by humans and their Toxanol corporation, eventually caused all the animals on earth to mutate into not-so-cute and cuddly creatures.
Earth eventually became uninhabitable for humans because it became so toxic, so they conveniently ran away from their problems in little spaceships. The world is healing, and animals are becoming smarter and stronger.
The Tribal War
This storyline is a little complex, so we’ll keep it brief. In short, our protagonist’s mom ended up setting off a series of pretty nasty events, which led to the creation of rival tribes, each with its own goals and belief system.
With the end of the world (and some nasty little characters called world-eaters) looming, tensions are even higher.
While some tribes want to stop the world-eaters and save the planet, other tribes side with them and start eating up the Tree of Life, which speeds up the planet’s demise.
As you can see, it’s all a bit dystopian doom and gloom, but at least we have some cute characters to make it all the more bearable.
Is Biomutant Multiplayer?
Unfortunately, Biomutant is NOT a multiplayer game. No coop or multiplayer options are available in the game, which led to some disappointing feedback from its players.
Biomutant is a single-player game, so there’s no way you’ll be able to enjoy it with your friends.
However, Biomutant isn’t multiplayer, so it doesn’t spell the end of its success. As we’ve seen in the past, single-player games can (and do) succeed – take a look at the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, for instance.
This game received rave reviews, took the world by storm, and became a cult classic.
However, times have changed since the release of Zelda, and gamers want more from their experiences. Sure, there are plenty of cool things to enjoy in Biomutant without multiplayer, but would it have enhanced the experience? Absolutely.
Honestly, it’s quite disappointing to see no support for co-op or multiplayer in Biomutant, especially as the game lets its players create their class. This is a cool feature, but wow, it would have been much better with the multiplayer feature.
Could Biomutant Become Multiplayer?
If Biomutant becomes super successful, there’s every chance it could support multiplayer. It’s important to remain realistic, though.
For now, there are no plans to add such support, so Biomutant fans will have to live in hope for the time being.
Although it received mixed reviews, many gamers believe Biomutant could become a big hit in the gaming world. If it does, Experiment 101 (the game’s developer), could see the demand for multiplayer as an opportunity.
If there’s a sequel, the opportunities are endless, but for now, there’s no news as to whether or not Biomutant will receive another game.
Don’t Worry; There’s Still Plenty To Enjoy
We get it: a lack of multiplayer support is pretty disappointing, but let’s look at the bigger picture: there’s still plenty to enjoy in Biomutant.
If you’re focusing on the main storyline and objective, you’ll have around 13 hours of gameplay.
However, if you’re on a mission to complete all of the mini-side quests and explore every aspect of the game, you’re looking in the region of 45 hours of gameplay – especially if you want to get to 100% complete.
In other words, you won’t be bored. Learn how to do Super Wung Fu, find yourself a bio-suit, complete the main quests, partake in Munster Hunts, and make the most of fast travel – there are plenty of features to take advantage of, and if you’re prepared to immerse yourself in the game, you’ll hardly miss the multiplayer!
Final Thoughts
Sorry guys, but Biomutant isn’t multiplayer… for now. Although there are no plans to add multiplayer and co-op support, we never know what the future holds.
If Biomutant becomes a big hit or gets a sequel, it’s all to play for. Until then, you’ve got plenty of great features to take advantage of, so happy gaming!
