What Does Lure Do In Minecraft?

Have you ever wondered what the enchantment Lure does in Minecraft and what its effects are?

If you’re new to Minecraft or you need a refresher, we’re here to tell you everything you need to know about the Lure enchantment, what it does, and how to get it.

What Does Lure Do?

Lure is an enchantment that is specifically for fishing. It increases the rate of fish that bites the player’s hook and decreases the wait time for new fish to appear by five seconds per level.

If you were to fish normally, it might take between 5 and 30 seconds for a fish to hook. 

The minimum level for Lure is Level 1, with a maximum level of Level 3. You can add Lure to a fishing rod using an enchantment table, an Anvil, or the /enchant command.

As there are a maximum of three levels, we can estimate that the wait time for a fish to hook will only take 15 seconds instead of 30. 

If you want to get more treasure when you’re using Lure, you can also add Luck of the Sea alongside it. Before Minecraft Java was updated to 1.9, Lure used to affect how much loot you would fish. 

How Do You Get Lure?

There are a few ways to get Lure. We could either use the /enchant command, which you can use on all versions of Minecraft. To identify a specific level, you can use these three commands:

• /enchant @p lure 1
• /enchant @p lure 2
• /enchant @p lure 3

There are a few more commands, but you need these three basic ones. 

You can also get Lure using an enchantment table, an enchanted book, and an Anvil, or by fishing up a fishing rod with the Lure enchantment when you’re fishing.

Fishing up a rod with Lure depends on luck, so if you want an easier way to get Lure, we recommend using the commands or the first two options.

Getting Lure Via Enchantment Table

One of the easiest ways to get Lure is through an enchantment table. To make an enchantment table, you will need a book, two diamonds, and four obsidian ores.

When crafting your table, you should arrange it so the book is in the center of the top row.

The second row should be arranged with the two diamonds on either side of the obsidian ore. Finally, the third row should be filled with obsidian ore.

You will need a fishing rod, lapis lazuli, and experience to enchant your fishing rod. You can get experience by mining, using your furnace, killing mobs, and breeding livestock.

The number of levels you have is then used for your enchantments. You can see the number of levels in the bottom center of your screen, just above your inventory.

You will need three sticks and two strings to get a fishing rod. A string can be obtained by killing spider mobs. You can mine lapis lazuli on layer 14, often spawning near diamond ore. 

Getting the Lure enchantment depends on the luck of the draw. Put your lapis lazuli and your fishing rod into the slots of the enchantment table.

Three options will appear; hopefully, one will be Lure. If you don’t get Lure straight away, remove your items from the enchantment table and put them back in the slots. With some time, you should be able to get Lure.

If you want a higher level of Lure from your enchantment table, you will need to add more bookshelves around it.

To access the highest levels of enchantment, you’ll need 15 bookshelves which need to be placed one block away from the enchantment table. All you need to do is ensure that you leave space for a door to access your table.

Getting Lure Via Anvil

To get Lure using the anvil, you will need an anvil and an enchanted book with Lure.

There are a few ways to get an enchanted book with Lure, as you can find them in chests, trade them from villagers such as librarians, or fish one up.

To make an anvil, you will need 3 blocks of iron and 4 iron ingots. To craft them, the three blocks of iron should be lined up in each slot of the top row.

There should be one iron ingot in the center of the middle row and three ingots in the bottom row.

You can use an anvil as an alternative to an enchantment table, and they often have useful features. It’s a simple process. Take a fishing rod from your inventory, and place it in one of the anvil’s slots.

You can place the enchanted book in the other slot and have a fishing rod with Lure. 

Getting An Enchanted Book From A Librarian

If you’ve struggled to find an enchanted book with Lure from loot, we recommend trading one with a Librarian.

To trade with a Librarian, you will need emeralds. However, emeralds are rarer to find than even diamonds. Emeralds are only available in the mountain biomes, usually in layers 4 through 32.

Emeralds can be a great way to get an enchanted book. However, it is typically easier to use an enchantment table.

Fishing is one of the most peaceful pastimes on Minecraft. However, using Lure can speed up the process.

If you want to catch more fish in a shorter time frame, then Lure is a useful enchantment to add to your rod. By adding Lure with other enchantments, you can improve your fishing rod and ensure that you can also catch treasure too.
