How To Get To The Mountaintops Of The Giants In Elden Ring
Elden Ring is a big, open-world game with a lot of treacherous zones for you to travel to.
From crumbling ruins and dark dungeons to open plains and impressive mountain vistas, you will always be stumbling into something new in the Lands Between.
One of the most interesting zones in the game is the Mountaintops of the Giants—the resident snowy area of the game.
This endgame zone is an important place for much of what end-game content has to offer in the game—but getting there can feel like an impossible task!
So let’s say you’re looking to get to Mountaintops of the Giants. How exactly can you do this?
There are a few essential things you’ll have to do before you can ride Torrent over there, and this quest will take you through some other important parts of the game.
In this article, we’re going to take you through everything you’ll want to know about how to get to this zone, as well as some additional tips to help you get there!
What Are The Mountaintops Of The Giant?
Mountaintops of the Giants is a late-game zone in Elden Ring. On the map, you can find it on the northeastern side of the Lands Between.
It is a land of snow and mountains, which was once governed by powerful giants, who have since mostly disappeared.
Mountaintops Of The Giants is a required zone in the game, as it will lead you to the Fire Giant boss fight, which is one of the bosses you must defeat to complete the game.
It includes many important locations, such as the First Church Of Marika, The Forge Of The Giants, Flame Peak, Castle Sol, Zamor Ruins, and the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs.
Some of these locations, such as Ordina, Liturgical Town, offer you the chance to travel to Miquella’s Haligtree, one of the most challenging areas in the game that offers you the chance to fight Malenia Blade of Miquella, one of the most challenging bosses in FromSoftware’s history.
Either way, if you want to complete the game, you will eventually want to encounter some of the bosses and areas within Mountaintops of the Giants.
The bosses in Mountaintops of the Giants include Ancient Hero of Zamor, Borealis the Freezing Fog, Commander Niall, Death Rite Bird, Fire Giant, and Roundtable Knight Vyke.
How Do I Get To Mountaintops Of The Giants In Elden Ring?
First Steps
Getting to Mountaintops of the Giants requires you to operate the Grand Lift of Rold. In order to do this, you will need to get hold of the Rold Medallion.
This can be achieved by first making your way through Leyndell, the Royal Capital. This is a later-game zone, and although it can be accessed fairly early on, it is a difficult zone to get through if you are a new player to the game.
Defeating Morgott, The Omen King
The next step to get to Mountaintops of the Giants is to defeat Morgott, the Omen King. There’s a fair chance that you have already defeated Margit, the Fell Omen, and this boss is a very similar encounter.
The main difference is that Morgott (who is most likely Margit in the lore, by the way), is much faster and more dangerous.
One of the first things to know about this encounter is that Morgott uses holy damage, and as a result, you will heavily benefit by stacking up on holy damage resistance.
This will mean that he won’t kill you in a few hits. The difficulty of trying to give advice about specific boss encounters in Elden Ring is that there are so many different builds. What works for one player may not work for another.
With this in mind, you should know that Morgott is a boss that requires you to learn his patterns. Make sure you learn when to dodge, when to attack, and when to back away.
If you’re really struggling with this fight, you can get ahold of Margit’s Shackle, an item that you can buy from a vendor located in Murkwater cave. This item will allow you to stagger Morgott and make the fight a lot easier.
Next Steps
After you have defeated Morgott, the Omen King, you will find a site of grace appear in the center of the encounter room.
To get this to appear, ascend the steps up to the base of the Erdtree and try to open the door. Once you find that the door will not open, you can head back to the site of grace and rest at it.
While you rest at the site of grace, you will find that Melina has come to speak with you.
After some dialogue where she explains that you cannot yet enter the Erdtree, she will explain that you will have to go to the Mountaintops of the Giants to get a flame to burn away the protective thorns of the Erdtree.
From here, she will give you an item called the Rold Medallion, which will allow you to operate the Grand Lift of Rold.
Using The Lift
So from here, you’re going to need to carve a path through the Royal Capital, exiting through the eastern path, then making your way up a snowy path to the Grand Lift of Rold.
Once you get to the site of grace inside, you can rest easy and prepare to ascend. Be careful. A boss known as Black Blade Kindred will stand in your way—and he can be a very challenging encounter!
You can choose to either fight Black Blade or simply rush past him on torrent. Either way, you will eventually find yourself before the Grand Lift of Rold.
From here, you can use the medallion in your inventory to operate the lift. Once you step onto the lift and begin to ascend, you will be seconds away from entering the new zone—Mountaintops of the Giants.
Final Thoughts
So that was our short guide on how you can get to Mountaintops of the Giants. The most difficult part of the journey is to defeat Morgott, the Omen King, so make sure you are suitably leveled and prepared before you face him.
We hope that this guide has helped you get to the zone you were looking for and that you can now enjoy all that the end game of Elden Ring has to offer you!
