How To Equip Great Runes

You may have collected Great Runes in the Lands Between throughout your gameplay. And if you haven’t yet, don’t worry, you’ll find some.

The big bosses of the game often drop them along with Rememberances. If you see either, you will want to collect them because they can be useful.

Providing you know how to activate them, of course.

If you don’t, don’t fret, that’s what we’re here for! A Great Rune can be equipped at a Site of Grace after it’s been activated.

However, it’s worth noting that you will need a Rune Arc to get a passive bonus effect.

And you can only equip these one at a time, so you’ll need to pay close attention to the features of each one and use them accordingly for each area.

How To Use Great Runes In Elden Ring

Once you’ve collected a Great Rune that a boss has left behind, the very first thing you’ll need to do is restore it.

If you don’t, you won’t be able to equip it. So your next task will be to make your way to the Divine Tower in the region in which you collected your Great Rune.

For Example, a Great Rune collected from Godrick (the first boss) would need to be restored in the Divine Tower of Limgrave. 

Thankfully, once you restore your Great Rune, you won’t need to do it again if you switch between different ones. Although, I would suggest stocking up on Rune Arcs.

Elden Ring Rune Arc: Where To Find Them

While restoring your Great Rune is certainly the beginning of your quest, it is most certainly not the end. Without a Rune Arc, you won’t be apple to use the passive effects your Great Rune has to offer.

So you’ll need to equip and then activate a Rune Arc.

This leads us to the next move in your quest. Now, you will be particularly blessed if you are fortunate enough to find a Rune Arc dropped by an enemy because this is incredibly rare.

They may come from the occasional rat, and a rummage in a chest or a search of a corpse may help you find a Rune Arc, but again it’s uncommon.

And since you could do with quite a few of these Arcs, I would suggest traveling to the vendors at Roundtable Hold and Liurnia of the Lakes, where you can purchase a Rune Arc for 4,000 Runes.

Do Great Runes Last Forever?

When you have used your Rune Arc, the buff of your Great Rune will be activated for as long as you can survive.

Once you die, you’ll need to use another Rune Arc to receive the bonuses from the Great Rune.

Where Can I Get Rune Arcs?

Rune arcs can be purchased at Roundtable. To get there, you’ll need to first make your way through Enia.

You can also make your way towards the lakes and purchase Rune Arcs from the Normadic Merchant.

Can You Lose A Great Rune?

A Great Rune will be dropped by any of the main bosses throughout the game. Once you’ve collected your Great Rune, they can’t be lost or spent.

So you won’t lose your Great Rune at any time. That said, you may still need to restore your Great Rune, and you’ll need Rune Arcs to activate the bonuses.

Should You Save Rune Arcs? 

You best save your Rune Arcs because you’ll need them to activate your Great Runes. And if you die, they will need reactivating.

This means that you should always try and collect as many as possible where you can.

Where Can I Farm Runes? 

For the uninitiated, the best Elden Ring rune farming spor is located in Mohgwyn Palace at the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace.

This Site of Grace features quite a few enemies all in the same location that can be killed quickly and easily, allowing you to farm them whenever you need a rune boost.
