What Does Efficiency Do In Minecraft?
In November 2011, Minecraft (now known as Minecraft classic) hit our consoles for the first time. Since its release, Minecraft has racked up millions of players and earned a reputation that most current releases can only dream of.
Whether you’re building a realm, making the most of creative play, or gaming online, you can take advantage of some of the most popular features Minecraft has to offer – including enchantments.
In today’s post, we’ll explore the power of efficiency enchantment. Keep reading to learn how to use efficiency and how it can take your gaming experience.
What Are Enchantments?
Enchantments (sometimes called enchants) are a Minecraft bonus that can be applied to almost any weapon, armor, or tool in the game. Enchantments can improve the abilities of your existing tools or weapons and give them more efficiency.
Enchantments not only improve existing abilities but can also give your weapons and tools new powers. We’ll explore these in detail later, but some of the most popular enchantments can increase your underwater mining speed, reduce explosion damage, and increase damage dealt to mobs.
What Is The Efficiency Enchantment?
The Efficiency enchantment is one of the most popular enchantments in Minecraft. This enchantment can improve your mining speed in the game and allow you the mine blocks much faster!
The efficiency enchantment can be applied to various tools, including axes, shovels, pickaxes, shears, and hoes. The efficiency enchantment comes with five levels, and the highest can be difficult to reach.
Important Note: The efficiency enchantment will only speed up your mining abilities for the blocks associated with your chosen tool.
For example, the efficiency enchantment will speed up your axe mining speed, but only for wooden blocks. If you try to mine stone blocks with an axe, your speed will not be increased.
How Can You Reach Efficiency Level 5?
Applying Level 5 efficiency to your tools can be tricky. Although most tools can be upgraded to level 5, stone and diamond cannot. Stone and diamond tools can only reach level four efficiency on an enchantment table.
Although you can’t naturally enchant these tools to level 5, there is a way to get stone and diamond tools at level 5 efficiency. Diamond tools with maximum enchantment can be found in chests in certain locations, but these are pretty hard to come by.
Suppose you want a stone tool with the maximum enchantment. In that case, you can combine two identical items with the same efficiency level to be given efficiency level five on a new item.
You’ll need to be at efficiency level 4 on your chosen items to do this.
Want to know how your abilities will be improved with the enchantment?
Here’s how your mining speeds will increase with each efficiency level:
- Extra 25% Speed at Level One
- Extra 30% Speed at Level Two
- Extra 35% Speed at Level Three
- Extra 40% Speed at Level Four
- Extra 45% Speed at Level Five
How To Apply The Efficiency Enchantment
The easiest way to enchant a tool in Minecraft is to use the enchanting table.
To make an enchanting table, you’ll need to load up your crafting menu and place one book, two diamonds, and four obsidian ores in the following order:
- Book (Centre of Column One)
- Diamond, Obsidian Ore, Diamond (Column Two)
- Three Obsidian Ores (Column Three)
Once you’ve arranged your ingredients correctly, you’ll have your enchantment table that can be placed anywhere in your Minecraft village.
How To Use An Enchantment Table
To enchant an item on the enchantment table, you’ll need to place your desired item (and 1-3 Lapis Lazuli) in their dedicated slots.
Once you do this, you’ll see three options appear on your screen’s right. You can hover over the glyphs presented in your GUI to see what enchantments can be applied to your tool or weapon.
If you’re using Minecraft on your mobile, you’ll have to tap on each glyph to see your choice of enchantments.
The enchantments you’re presented with will be relevant to your current player level and the Lapis Lazuli requirements that correspond with the amount of Lapis Lazuli placed on the table.
Your level requirement will influence the quality, level, and type of enchantment you can apply to your tool or weapon.
If you want to increase an existing enchantment level, you’ll need bookshelves placed next to the enchantment table, with a minimum of one block of air between them.
If you want access to all 30 enchantments, you’ll need 15 bookshelves placed around your enchantment table.
If your tool or weapon is eligible for the efficiency enchantment, it will be displayed on the GUI. Simply click the efficiency enchantment to apply it to your tool or weapon.
The Benefits Of The Efficiency Enchantment
The efficiency enchantment can improve your mining speed, making it quicker (and easier) to mine for materials.
Here are a few more benefits of using the efficiency enchantment in Minecraft:
- It can be applied to shears to break cobwebs and leaves faster
- Enchanted hoes can till soil and harvest crops at faster speeds.
- If you’re building a new home or moving sand, an enchanted hoe can move dirt much quicker
- Pickaxes are essential for mining stone blocks. You can mine stone blocks at lightning speed with an enchanted pickaxe and do the job faster. Pickaxes are often one of the first tools players enchant in the game.
The Bottom Line
Enchantments are a fool-proof way to improve your gaming experience. You can make menial tasks faster with the right enchantments, deal more damage to mobs, and even mine faster underwater!
If you’re enchanting your tools or weapons for the first time, we’d highly recommend the efficiency enchantment. You can mine your blocks faster and have even more fun building and upgrading your creations!
