How To Save In Elden Ring

Elden Ring is an intense game that is relatively difficult to play, especially considering that it is a FromSoftware application. As the majority of the map is approaching to murder you, it’s a good idea to take small breaks to prepare yourself for the next fight.

However, as is the case with Miyazaki applications, Elden Ring can be a little confusing as it doesn’t explain various aspects of the game to players.

How To Save In Elden Ring

If you want to save while playing Elden Ring, you must stand in a safe location and click on the menu. Navigate to the Game Options icon, select save, then go back to the main menu.

As these actions aren’t clearly defined, this can baffle many players, who may think that the game doesn’t have a save option. This isn’t the case, as practically all games, including Elden Ring, let you save the game.

Just remember that you need to be in a safe location before you can save, or you run the risk of being hit and dying. 

Examples of safe areas to save in are the Roundtable Hold or areas close to the Site of Graces. Your player won’t get attacked in these places so you can go through your menu safely without any concerns. 

In most cases, FromSoftware applications have decent autosave abilities that continuously save the game. This is ideal if you quit the game, or die quickly, as it will relaunch from the same location where you’ll notice the ‘You Died’ page. 

If you aren’t sure if the autosave is functioning or not, you can manually save the app, even though Elden Ring hasn’t mentioned how to do so. If you want to manually save your game, follow these steps:

• Select Start to open the menu.
• Navigate to the Game Options icon on the right side.
• Select the Quit Game choice, which will move you to the main menu.
• Choosing this option will save the game.
• If you want to keep playing, load back in. 

Manually saving is a little inconvenient, but unfortunately, there isn’t any other method of manually saving the game. You will need to start the game once more from the main menu if you want to keep playing it.

Despite this, as mentioned above, Elden Ring has a useful autosave function that continuously saves the game. This means that you won’t need to keep manually saving your game unless you want to stop present gameplay.

What Is The Site Of Graces?

As you play Elden Ring, you’ll see several Site of Graces that behave like Dark Soul Bonfires. After you trigger the site, you can sit at the location and do several functions. 

We’ll get into these functions below, but first, remember that the game will automatically save when you sit in these areas so that you can quit the game easily without any concerns.

This will occur each time you sit in these locations so that you won’t miss any autosave possibilities.

One of the features you can do at these sites is while away the time. You can select night, day, afternoon, or evening based on the things you are looking for.

As some enemies and bosses only come out at night, you may need to change the time so you can confront and beat them. 

Another feature is that players can level up by using any Ruins earned from conquering various enemies. Going up levels means that you will become stronger and can use points in factors like Dexterity, Strength, and more, based on your desired build.

Leveling up is necessary, as it means that you can keep fighting enemies instead of lacking in HP or damage. 

Playing Elder Ring allows you to sit at these locations and automatically save the game. After you are finished and want to stop playing or take a break from the game, you can use the quit game method above to save it manually. 

Remember to ensure that you are in a safe location, or you may have to battle sudden enemies once you launch the game later. 

Pausing Elder Ring

Unfortunately, you cannot pause Elder Ring. There is only one way to take a break, which is abstaining from combat. However, you still cannot pause in the middle of a battle to answer your door or answer a call.  

This is the case with many games made by FromSoftware, though there isn’t any main reason why this is the case. It’s presumed that the developers didn’t want players to get around difficult locations by simply pausing and starting again. 

This also helps players concentrate on the battle without pausing to research tactics or get some rest. 

Also, bear in mind that players online can be invaded randomly at any time, which is a good reason why pausing is not permitted.

Does Browsing The Elden Ring Inventory Make You Vulnerable?

As you cannot pause Elden Ring, this also means that any menus you use during gameplay, like the equipment, inventory, or crafting menu, will not pause gameplay either. 

You run the risk of being hit if you are in the field while browsing any of the menus, so it’s best to locate a quiet location to do various tasks. 

As mentioned above, you can also go to a Site Of Grace and open your menus there, as these are more likely to be battle-free zones. 

The Bottom Line

Elden Ring doesn’t explicitly state how to navigate through the game, so it can be confusing figuring out how to save the game. The application will auto-save after several seconds, so you can rest easy knowing that your progress is auto-saved.

However, if you want to save the game manually, you can use the Quit Game option, but you will need to keep loading back in if you want to keep playing it. 

You can also sit at a Site of Grace before quitting. If the game crashes or you lose power, it will load right back to where you were when it crashed.
