Are There Guns In Dying Light 2?
If you love survival horror games, you’ll LOVE Dying Light. The Dying Light series was first released in January 2012 on Windows, Linux, PS4, and Xbox One.
The game was a widespread commercial hit, shifting to 20 million units by April 2022. In February 2022, game developer Techland announced 5 million sales of Dying Light 2, one of the most talked about games of the year.
Dying Light has impressed us with its graphics, features, and outstanding gameplay, but are there guns in Dying Light 2?
In this article, we’ll walk you through the ins and outs of this dystopian gaming hit and discuss all the weapons you can (and can’t) use in the game.
What Is Dying Light 2?
Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022, and it’s the second game in the Dying Light series, first released in 2015 by developer Techland.
Dying Light 2 is set in 2036, 22 years after the first game was set. Dying Light 2 follows the events of the first game, in which a new strain of the deadly Harran Virus spread rapidly across the world.
In Dying Light 2, humanity has been thrown into a period called the Modern Dark Age, and the fight to save a rapidly dying city is in your power.
The main storyline focuses on the character Aiden and his sister Mia, who were members of the experiment performed on humans to find a cure for the THV virus. As the experiments proved unsuccessful, Aiden and Mia separated, but she remains a focal point of the story.
Are There Guns In Dying Light 2?
If you’re a gun-lover, you may be disappointed that there are no guns in Dying Light 2, apart from an old craftable shotgun you get to keep later in the game. However, this doesn’t mean you won’t have anything to defend yourself with.
Dying Light mainly focuses on melee weapons, and you’ll find four weapon varieties in the game, each of which come in many varieties. The weapon categories you’ll find in Dying Light 2 are:
Blunt Weapons
Blunt weapons found in the game include:
- 2-Handed Mace
- Long Mace
- Mace
- Bats
- Police Baton
- Long Stick
- Stick
- Knuckle Dusters
- Hammer
Slashing Weapons
You can also use a variety of slashing weapons, including:
- Axe
- Long-Axe
- Two-Handed Axe
- Machete
- Two-Handed Sword
- Long Weapon
Opportunity Weapons
Opportunity weapons are objects that can be found and used as weapons but aren’t necessarily weapons by nature. Opportunity weapons are:
- Bricks
- Propane Tank
- Throwing Spear
- Broken Bottle
- PK Cannon
Ranged Weapons
Ranged weapons make up just a small portion of the game. These weapons are:
- Broomstick
- Bow
- PK Crossbow
Broomstick Shotgun In Dying Light 2
Although there are no real guns in the game for you to play with, you can gain access to a broomstick shotgun toward the end of the game.
The broomstick shotgun can only be used once you’ve completed various main missions first. Dying Light 2 mainly uses melee weapons and a mix of parkour to take out these pesky rival zombies.
You’ll need to complete the Observatory mission and all the other main missions leading up to it to get the broomstick shotgun. The Observatory mission can be completed once you’ve entered the second open-world area, often called the Central Loop.
Once the Observatory mission is done, you can enter any area controlled by peacekeepers, and they’ll be able to sell you the blueprint for 400 coins. You can’t BUY the broomstick shotgun, but you’ll be given the instructions to make it yourself.
Once you’ve got the blueprint, you can head to the crafting menu and make it. Note: you’ll need at least 100 pieces of scrap to craft your broomstick shotgun.
Although the broomstick shotgun is durable and will serve you well in battle, remember: ammo is scarce. You should use your broomstick shotgun wisely because if you run out of ammo, you may have to wait a while before you can reload again!
However, the boomstick shotgun is worth crafting. It’ll serve you well and can even be upgraded later in the game.
If you use it wisely, it’ll be one of the best weapons you can have in your arsenal. If you can find enough ammo, it’ll be the only weapon you’ll ever need!
Why Are There No Guns In Dying Light 2?
Yes, it’s annoying for zombie-killing gun lovers, but there are a few valid reasons why guns aren’t the main weapon in the game.
First, let’s remember that in the age of Dying Light 2, zombies have been trying to rule humanity for around 15 years. So much time has passed since guns were readily available.
Even if you could get your hands on a gun (which would be a pretty hard task considering how rare they’d be), ammo would run dangerously low.
If it were going to be in any way realistic, you’d probably have to spend half the game just searching for the stuff.
Let’s also not forget that the army recently came to raid the city of Villedor and confiscated any practical weapons they could find, which would have included guns, too. Now, citizens are forced to use whatever they can find to protect themselves, including bottles and broken chair legs.
Final Thoughts
Dying Light 2 is one of the most talked about games of the year and for good reason. Although it may not have any *real* guns to play around with (aside from the broomstick shotgun), this is a sensible move from Techland, who wanted to make this dystopian horror feel as realistic to its events as possible.
Don’t worry you’ll still find plenty of extra weapons on offer!
